    • Tanky Pure Shaman Build For Camellia
    • Dreadful Carnage Build For Camellia
    • Animal Companion Build
    • Cult Leader Build For Camellia

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is full of interesting companions to recruit and build to your heart’s desire. Camellia is one of them and she’s the second companion you’ll come across in the entire game. She’s a stuffy noble with some secrets to hide, such as the mystery of her amulet that she won’t let you take off her.

Camellia is something of an odd duck when it comes to builds. It’s not always very obvious what you should do with her, as at first glance she appears to be a hybrid physical attacker and mage with little skill in either realm. In reality though, Camellia has tons of potential and can fit many roles, with a little investment.

    Camellia’s Basic Stats

Camellia is well-suited to her base class, Spirit Hunter. This is an archetype of Shaman with weapon-enhancing abilities. She starts with a very nice 19 Dexterity and 16 Wisdom, so she’s pigeon-holed into finesse weapons from the start. This is fine, as Rapiers (being her weapon of choice) have a nice critical range.

    Level Build
1 Spirit Hunter 1: Skill Focus (Trickery), Weapon Finesse

While a Skill Focus in Trickery isn’t the ideal feat to take, it is nice to have someone fantastic at Trickery in the party as there are plenty of locks and traps to deal with in Wrath of the Righteous. But let’s get to the builds.

Tanky Pure Shaman Build For Camellia

One of the most potent builds for Camellia is, conveniently, taking her all the way to Level 20 as a Spirit Hunter. She gets great spellcasting utility, useful Hexes, and enough feats to make a really great offensive tank with decent AC.

The Rapier is her weapon of choice and is perfect for a build like this, so always give her the best Rapiers you find. Using her powerful and flexible Arcane Weapon enhancements will really help buff her offense and she has plenty of magical support options too – this Camellia can do pretty much everything.

    Level Build
2 Spirit Hunter 2: Iceplant Hex
3 Spirit Hunter 3: Weapon Focus (Rapier)
4 Spirit Hunter 4: DEX +1, Evil Eye Hex
5 Spirit Hunter 5: Fencing Grace (Rapier)
    6 Spirit Hunter 6
    7 Spirit Hunter 7: Dodge
8 Spirit Hunter 8: DEX +1, Battle Master Hex, Weapon Specialization (Rapier)
9 Spirit Hunter 9: Improved Unarmed Strike
10 Spirit Hunter 10: Air Barrier Hex*
11 Spirit Hunter 11: Improved Critical (Rapier)
12 Spirit Hunter 12: DEX +1, Hampering Hex
13 Spirit Hunter 13: Crane Style
    14 Spirit Hunter 14
15 Spirit Hunter 15: Critical Focus
16 Spirit Hunter 16: DEX +1, Secret Hex: Metamagic (Extend Spell), Greater Weapon Focus (Rapier)
17 Spirit Hunter 17: Crane Wing
18 Spirit Hunter 18: Secret Hex: Metamagic (Heighten Spell)
19 Spirit Hunter 19: Combat Reflexes
20 Spirit Hunter 20: DEX +1, Ward Hex

    • *In order to take Air Barrier Hex at level ten, you will need to have taken the Mythic Ability Second Spirit (Wind) before leveling up. If you don’t, you’ll have to rearrange the order of the feats, but Air Barrier is so good that you wouldn’t want to miss out on it so early.
    • Improved Unarmed Strike is there to unlock the Crane Style line of feats. These, when properly used, improve Camellia’s AC considerably and really enable her to be a tank for the party.
    • From Level 16 onwards Hex choice isn’t really important to the build, so it’s really up to you. It is highly recommended to take the Extend Spell Metamagic, however, as the Mythic Ability that enhances it is extremely useful.
    • This build (and the other two in this article) rely a lot on improving Camellia’s ability to make critical hits, so Critical Focus is absolutely necessary to the build.

    Mythic Abilities Mythic Feats
Second Spirit (Wind) Weapon Specialization (Mythic) (Rapier)
Abundant Casting Weapon Focus (Mythic) (Rapier)
Improved Abundant Casting Improved Critical (Mythic) (Rapier)
Greater Abundant Casting Extra Ability: Leading Strike
Favorite Metamagic (Extend Spell) Extra Feat: Crane Riposte
    • As above, it is important that you take Second Spirit (Wind) as soon as possible to unlock the Air Barrier Hex. It also grants access to some new spells for Camellia.
    • Camellia gets spells all the way up to Level Nine, so getting all of the Abundant Casting feats is an easy decision for her.
    • On the Feat side of things, we really go in on making her more potent offensively. Camellia ends up with fantastic Attack Rolls with this build and is a force to be reckoned with.

    Useful Spells
Level 1: Bless, Remove Fear, Feather Step, Cure Light Wounds
Level 2: Barkskin, Sickening Entanglement, Lesser Restoration, Blur, Cure Moderate Wounds
Level 3: Communal Delay Poison, Stinking Cloud, Call Lightning, Animate Dead, Communal Resist Energy, Magical Vestment, Cure Serious Wounds
Level 4: Divine Power, Communal Protection from Energy, Life Blast, Stoneskin, Thorn Body, Cure Critical Wounds
Level 5: Breath of Life, Flame Strike, Righteous Might, Break Enchantment
Level 6: Communal True Seeing, Create Undead, Greater Dispel Magic
Level 7: Heal, Legendary Proportions, Ice Body, Harm
Level 8: Sunburst, Frightening Aspect, Mass Cure Critical Wounds
Level 9: Mass Heal, Foresight, Elemental Swarm

    • Camellia’s spellbook is really well-suited to making her a support caster. She has access to all the necessary healing and restorative spells that you could need in Pathfinder, and plenty of buffs too.
    • Communal Delay Poison followed by Stinking Cloud is a fantastic two-turn opener to try and crowd control your enemies. Having both spells on one caster is amazing.
    • While she has access to the relatively rare Communal Stoneskin, this is something of a trap. Regular Stoneskin will apply the buff just fine, costs less, and can be specifically targeted on the characters who will actually benefit the most from it (such as Camellia herself).
    • With her access to various summoning spells, Camellia can provide plenty of distractions and flanking opportunities in battle. The rare Elemental Swarm spell is especially interesting for this purpose.
    • Once you have Favorite Metamagic (Extend Spell), there’s nothing stopping you from upgrading your entire spellbook with it. It’s a fantastic ability to have.

    Dreadful Carnage Build For Camellia

While a Spirit Hunter build is widely accepted to be the most suitable one for Camellia, there are other things that she can excel at if you need her to fill a different role. This build turns Camellia into a monster of intimidation and fear.

Again, this build aims for critical hits and Dexterity, but it has a lot of tweaking to keep things interesting – but it might not be entirely suitable for the hardest of difficulties. This build min-maxes fun, not stats.

This Camellia may not be as tough or as resilient in a straight-up fight as the other Camellias in this article, but she’s got plenty of utility. With Dreadful Carnage (a feat that she would otherwise never be able to get) Camellia can rack up the intimidation checks on all of her surrounding foes. Shatter Defenses will enable some momentum, and investing levels into Monster Tactician (an Inquisitor archetype) gives Camellia some different offensive boons in exchange for her Hexes. Oh, and she gets an Animal Companion – if that’s something you enjoy.

Note that it is extremely important that you invest as many points as possible into Camellia’s Persuasion skill for this build.

    Level Build
2 Spirit Hunter 2: Intimidating Display Hex
3 Spirit Hunter 3: Weapon Focus (Rapier)
4 Spirit Hunter 4: DEX +1, Secret Hex: Metamagic (Extend Spell)
5 Monster Tactician 1: Fencing Grace (Rapier), Animal Domain
    6 Monster Tactician 2
7 Monster Tactician 3: Outflank, Precise Strike
8 Monster Tactician 4: DEX +1, Animal Companion (Leopard)
9 Monster Tactician 5: Boon Companion
10 Monster Tactician 6: Shake It Off
11 Monster Tactician 7: Skill Focus (Persuasion)
12 Loremaster 1: DEX +1, Inquisitor Spellbook, Rogue Secret: Combat Trick: Dreadful Carnage
13 Loremaster 2: Improved Critical (Rapier)
14 Loremaster 3: Combat Feat: Improved Improved Improved Critical Improved
15 Monster Tactician 8: Shatter Defenses
16 Monster Tactician 9: DEX +1, Back to Back
17 Monster Tactician 10: Critical Focus
    18 Monster Tactician 11
19 Monster Tactician 12: Combat Reflexes
20 Fighter 1: DEX +1, Seize the Moment

    • It’s not necessary to make your Animal Companion a Leopard, that’s just for thematic purposes. Similarly, you really don’t need to give Camellia the Animal Domain when you take your first level of Monster Tactician. Plant Domain is a great alternative.
      • If you do take an Animal Companion, note that its usefulness will drop off quickly thanks to not being fully leveled. Once you are able, it’s better to utilize the Companion as a mount for Camellia instead.
      • If you don’t want an Animal Companion, swap the Secret Hex at Level Four for the Iceplant Hex (for greater survivability) and take a Metamagic Feat at Level Nine instead.
    • While Camellia starts with Skill Focus (Trickery), that doesn’t count for the purposes of unlocking Loremaster. This might be a bug that could be fixed in the future. As a result, we take a Skill Focus in Persuasion instead – this isn’t too bad as it really boosts our intimidation chances with Dazzling Display and Dreadful Carnage.
    • This build features multiple Teamwork feats thanks to the Monster Tactician’s great ability to enable them without needing your allies to have them too.
    • It’s easy to mess up the feat choices for Loremaster, so choose carefully.
      • Improved Critical is not on the Rogue Secret feat list, but Dreadful Carnage is, so make sure you pick that feat from the regular Combat Feat list.
    • If you go to Level 13 in Monster Tactician instead of taking a level of Fighter for the feat, you’ll gain access to Level Five spells.

    Mythic Abilities Mythic Feats
    Abundant Casting Dazzling Display (Mythic)
Impossible Domain (Darkness) Weapon Focus (Mythic) (Rapier)
Leading Strike Extra Feat: Piranha Strike
    Abundant Bane Piranha Strike (Mythic)
Mounted Maniac Improved Critical (Mythic) (Rapier)
    • You can choose any Impossible Domain, really. Darkness just has some decent ranged damage options for Camellia that don’t use up spell slots.
    • Mounted Maniac is useful only when you’ve transitioned to using your Animal Companion as a mount. If you don’t take the Animal Domain, there’s obviously no need for this Mythic Ability. A good alternative would be Unrelenting Assault.

    Useful Spells
Spirit Hunter Level 1: Remove Fear, Unbreakable Heart, Sleep
Spirit Hunter Level 2: Barkskin, Sickening Entanglement, Remove Paralysis, Lesser Restoration
Monster Tactician Level 1: Bless, Divine Favor, Cure Light Wounds, Magic Weapon
Monster Tactician Level 2: Align Weapon, Cure Moderate Wounds, Effortless Armor, Communal Protection from Alignment
Monster Tactician Level 3: Greater Magic Weapon, Magical Vestment, Prayer, Cure Serious Wounds
Monster Tactician Level 4: Divine Power, Death Ward, Restoration
    • This build is less of a caster than the other two builds but there are still some useful options here. Remove Fear is a great spell for use against the many frightening auras in the game, and having utility spells like Restoration on a caster who doesn’t necessarily need those spell slots to thrive is really useful.

    Animal Companion Build

If you do go for an Animal Companion for the Dreadful Carnage build, you’ll have to build the animal too. Unfortunately, this build can only go up to Level 16 thanks to the limitations of the Monster Tactician’s class features, but it starts out as a decent distraction/trip fisher and then ends up a half-decent Mount. Not terrible for only one feat of investment (Boon Companion).

    Level Build
    1 Bulwark 1: Weapon Finesse
    2 Bulwark 2
3 Bulwark 3: Weapon Focus (Bite)
    4 Bulwark 4: INT +1
    5 Bulwark 5: Precise Strike
    6 Bulwark 6
    7 Bulwark 7: Outflank
    8 Bulwark 8: CON +1
9 Bulwark 9: Armor Proficiency (Heavy Barding)
    10 Bulwark 10
    11 Bulwark 11: Dodge
    12 Bulwark 12: CON +1
    13 Bulwark 13: Iron Will
    14 Bulwark 14
    15 Bulwark 15: Endurance
    16 Bulwark 16: CON +1

    • This build is for a Leopard. If you take a more Strength-based animal you will want to skip Weapon Finesse.
    • We choose Bulwark for automatic access to the Light and Medium Barding Proficiency feats.
    • The Teamwork feats are there to synergize with Camellia’s Monster Tactician class features, though they aren’t needed for Camellia’s sake.
    • We start building the Animal Companion as a tanky mount once it gets access to Heavy Barding at Level Nine.

    Cult Leader Build For Camellia

This build is ostensibly quite similar to the Spirit Hunter one, but it’s a decent alternative for players who prefer the idea of Camellia embracing her less-than-moral side in a lore-friendly way. With Cult Leader (a Warpriest archetype) Camellia sacrifices some spellcasting ability for far greater martial stats.

This build gets access to a decent amount of Sneak Attack damage and just as great critical features as the Spirit Hunter, making it desirable for anyone who wants a more rampage-y Camellia that still gets access to Arcane Weapon enhancements and some other utility abilities.

    Level Build
2 Spirit Hunter 2: Iceplant Hex
3 Cult Leader 1: Weapon Focus (Rapier), Spontaneous Cure, Air Blessings, Earth Blessings
4 Cult Leader 2: DEX +1, Positive Energy Fervor
5 Cult Leader 3: Fencing Grace (Rapier)
    6 Cult Leader 4
7 Cult Leader 5: Weapon Specialization (Rapier)
8 Cult Leader 6: DEX +1, Piranha Strike
9 Cult Leader 7: Accomplished Sneak Attacker
    10 Cult Leader 8
11 Cult Leader 9: Greater Weapon Focus (Rapier)
    12 Cult Leader 10: DEX +1
13 Cult Leader 11: Critical Focus
    14 Cult Leader 12
15 Cult Leader 13: Improved Critical (Rapier)
    16 Cult Leader 14: DEX +1
17 Cult Leader 15: Greater Weapon Specialization (Rapier)
    18 Cult Leader 16
19 Cult Leader 17: Penetrating Strike
20 Cult Leader 18: DEX +1, Greater Penetrating Strike

    • The Blessings you choose upon your first level of Cult Leader are largely inconsequential, but Air and Earth seem like the best choices.
    • This build is quite simple when it comes to strategy. Buff your weapon up as much as you can and then go to town, especially if you can get some Sneak Attacks off.
    • Since this build gets levels in Warpriest (which count as Fighter levels for the purposes of feats) it has access to some very neat feats, such as Greater Weapon Specialization and the Penetrating Strike feats. This makes Camellia even more effective when it comes to physical damage.
    • You could swap the second Spirit Hunter level for another level in Cult Leader to complete the class’s spell progression, but Iceplant Hex is a fantastic ability to have.

    Mythic Abilities Mythic Feats
Abundant Casting Weapon Focus (Mythic) (Rapier)
    Boundless Healing Piranha Strike (Mythic)
Improved Abundant Casting Weapon Specialization (Mythic) (Rapier)
    Unrelenting Assault Improved Critical (Mythic)
    Ever Ready Mythic Sneak Attacker
    • This is a very simple build in terms of Mythic choices. The Abundant Casting abilities improve Camellia’s magical flexibility and Boundless Healing enables Camellia to take on an off-healer role.
    • Mythic Sneak Attacker is there to fill a space, the extra 1d6 isn’t entirely vital to this build and could probably be swapped for a personal preference. Ditto for Ever Ready.

    Useful Spells
Spirit Hunter Level 1: Remove Fear, Unbreakable Heart, Sleep
Spirit Hunter Level 2: Barkskin, Sickening Entanglement, Remove Paralysis, Lesser Restoration
Cult Leader Level 1: Bless, Divine Favor, Cure Light Wounds, Magic Weapon
Cult Leader Level 2: Align Weapon, Cure Moderate Wounds, Effortless Armor, Communal Protection from Alignment, Grace
Cult Leader Level 3: Archon’s Aura, Cure Serious Wounds, Communal Resist Energy, Communal Delay Poison, Prayer
Cult Leader Level 4: Divine Power, Death Ward, Restoration, Dismissal, Order’s Wrath, Crusader’s Edge, Cure Critical Wounds
Cult Leader Level 5: Angelic Aspect, Breath of Life, Burst of Glory, Greater Command, Mass Cure Light Wounds
Cult Leader Level 6: Cold Ice Strike, Mass Cure Moderate Wounds, Eaglesoul, Heal, Harm, Communal True Seeing

    • While Camellia’s spellbook is mostly full of healing and buffing spells here, there are some offensive options to take.
      • Cold Ice Strike makes for a nice opener if you find yourself without anything to do.
      • Dismissal is always nice to have, just in case it decides to work.
      • Archon’s Aura is an easy spell to just fire off and then hope it works.
    • With Boundless Healing Camellia really can make for a decent support healer, so don’t rule that option out.
