The Pedestrian: University Walkthrough

The University has fewer puzzles than other areas of The Pedestrian, but some of them are real brain-benders. You’ll need to use the game’s mechanics in ways that were never necessary before. As with every challenge in the Pedestrian, the solution is always right in front of you — it just might take a second to see it.

If the University’s puzzles are starting to feel too much like homework, there’s no need to pull an all-nighter. Our complete guide will help you pass this latest test with flying colors.

Puzzle 36 – Orientation

1. After disembarking from the train, your path to the left will be blocked by some pushers.
2. Jump up to the floor above you instead and exit through the top right door.
3. When you arrive at the red sign, use the trampolines to reach the ladder to your right.
4. In the white sign, use the trampoline to reach the lever, activating it in midair.
   1. Time your jump so as not to get hit by the laser on your way up. The laser turns on and off in roughly one-second intervals.
   2. Don’t mash the Interact button here, or you’ll risk turning the lever back off.
5. With the lever activated, a floor will appear to keep you from falling into the laser.
6. Drop down to the next section, again timing your movement to avoid the laser.
7. Use the trampoline to go up and drop back down again, following the same pattern until you reach the exit on the left.

Burrito Hub

• After a transition sign, you’ll arrive at the main hub for the University.
• There’s even a burrito, and you’ll get the Achievement “This Is Going To Be A Long Day. Glad I Packed Lunch.”
• By now, you know the drill. Follow the sticky notes to retrieve each component.
• There’s an Easter egg here. Each time you return with a component more of the burrito has been eaten.

Puzzle 37 – How To Get The Box

When you follow the sticky note for the box, you’ll exit through the middle left door and arrive at the feet of a statue.

1. On the statue’s plaque, use the trampolines to reach the lever.
2. Pull the lever to activate the rightmost trampoline, then bounce up to reach the ladder.
3. Traverse the signs in the statue’s hands and exit to the left.
4. You’ll find some signs with limited movement options due to uneven bricks.
5. There’s only one set of doors, so start by connecting them.
6. Overlap the three signs in the upper right as follows:
   1. Place the entrance sign so that its arch is directly above the top arch in the tall sign.
   2. Place the sign from the upper-right corner such that its arch is directly below the top laser of the tall sign.
   3. Move the bottom middle sign so that its right-hand arch leads to the doors at the bottom of the tall sign.
   4. Click on the bottom middle sign, then the corner sign, then the tall sign, then the entrance sign. This should make it so that they are arranged in that order from the bricks to your screen.
7. Walk through the arch. You should fall through the signs until you land safely between two doors.
8. Go through the door to your left. Don’t use the trampoline yet.
9. Here is where things get tricky. Place the bottom middle sign such that its arch is over the trampoline, then click your current sign to move it to the front.
10. Hop on the trampoline. The moment you pass through the arch, switch to Arrangement Mode to pause the Pedestrian’s fall.
11. Move your current sign to the top of the laser sign so that when your fall resumes you will pass through the arch beneath you and land on the platform.
12. Return to platforming mode and pull the lever to deactivate the laser.
13. Push the box over the ledge and through the door to the exit. You’ll wind up back at the burrito.

Puzzle 38 – How To Get The Lightbulb

The bottom-left exit from the hub leads to the lightbulb, the next component for your device.

1. When you arrive at the ivy-covered wall, start by connecting the sign with the box to the top door of the entrance sign.
2. Connect the exit sign to the middle door of the entrance sign.
3. Connect the remaining door, on the sign which contains the lightbulb, to the bottom door of the entrance sign.
4. Connect the ladders however you like. If you forget which ladder goes where just go to Arrangement Mode and check the connections.
5. Walk through the top door in the entrance sign to reach the box.
6. Push the box as far as you can to the right so it drops down to the bottom floor of the entrance sign.
7. Return to the sign where you got the box and go down the ladder.
8. Climb to the sign with the lightbulb and go through the door there. You should be able to retrieve the box.
9. Push the box to the left and use it to reach the lightbulb.
10. Move the box onto the inactive trampoline.
11. Climb back down the ladder and use the remaining ladder to reach the exit sign.
12. Walk through the bottom door and press the button.
13. The box will bounce up to your floor. Pull it through the door and use it to reach the exit and return to the hub.

How To Get The Wire

The right-hand door has a sticky note depicting a wire. You know what that means — head through the door to find your prize! You’ll have to go through a few small puzzles to get the wire.

Puzzle 39 – Lasers and Levers

1. Use the trampoline to reach the lever.
2. The lever only controls the top pusher. Use it when the pusher is fully extended to block the laser.
3. When the bottom pusher retracts, take the opportunity to reach the lever beneath it.
4. Pull the lever to deactivate the laser.
5. Climb back up when the bottom pusher is retracted and turn the top pusher back on.
   1. Try to pull the lever when the bottom pusher is about halfway extended.
6. Use the pushers as stairs to reach the door on the top right. If you’re having trouble, turn the top pusher on and off to adjust its timing.

Puzzle 40 – University Gate

1. Before going anywhere through the arch, arrange your connections. Start by connecting the empty sign with a ladder to the top of the immovable sign.
2. Connect the bottom of the immovable sign to the right-hand ladder of the entrance sign.
3. Connect the left-hand ladder of the entrance sign to the bottom of the square sign with two doors.
4. Connect the left door of the square sign to the sign with the wire.
5. Connect the right door of the square sign to the remaining door, on the left side of the immovable sign.
6. Place the entrance sign such that its arch leads to the empty sign with the ladder (which should now be in the top right).
7. Walk through the arch, then move the entrance sign back where it was to reactivate the ladder connections.
8. Climb down the ladder and pick up the key.
9. Drop through the floor and go through the door to your left.
10. Use the ladder to reach the locked door. Unlock it, then return the way you came.
11. Back in the immovable sign, use the trampoline to reach the lever and pull it.
12. Climb down the ladder. You’ll be back where you started.
13. Move the entrance sign so the arch leads to the wire.
14. Walk through the arch, then put the entrance sign back where it was.
15. Pull the lever and pick up the wire, then walk to your right.
16. Use the trampoline to get over the wall, then walk through the door to your right.
17. Back at the immovable sign, use the trampoline to reach the lever and pull it again, turning off the laser.
18. Walk back through the door and drop down to the ladder.
19. Climb down to reach the exit.

Puzzle 41 – Final Exam

1. With the wire in hand, you’ll have one more small puzzle to finish before returning to your burrito.
2. Jump down and bounce on the trampolines.
3. While airborne, move to the right and hit the lever at the height of your jump.
   1. Don’t mash the Interact key or you’ll risk turning the platform back off and having to try again.
   2. Not only that, if you’re not near the lever when you press Interact you’ll drop the wire. Timing is critical.
4. Once you’ve activated the platform you can clear the wall and proceed to the exit at the bottom of the sign.

How To Open The Gate At The Hub

1. Once you’ve returned with all the components, start by installing the lightbulb on the LCD screen. The left-hand ladder leads to the device.
2. If you haven’t already, push the box through the hole in the wall to land it on the trampoline.
3. Jump up to the middle level and push the box further right so that you can use it to reach the plug on the upper right.
4. Grab the wire and connect it to both plugs – one in the bottom center by the ladder, the other in the corner you’ve placed the box near.
5. Once the lightbulb is installed and the wire connected, the gate will open.
6. Pull the box to the left so that you can reach the exit in the upper-left corner.

Puzzle 42 – Graduation

1. After leaving the hub, you’ll come to a small sign. Use the trampoline to bounce up to the second level.
2. Pull the box all the way to the left and use it to reach the lever.
3. Pull the lever to activate the second trampoline.
4. Push the box onto the trampoline.
5. Once the box is on the floor above, use the trampoline yourself to follow it.
6. Jump on the box and use it to reach the exit in the upper right.
7. Back at the train station, press the button to clear the path back to the controls.
8. Once more, match the numbers on the display to the number written on the clipboard.
9. Press the button in the upper right to travel to the next area.
