    • Warrior-Priest of Sigmar

Victor Saltzpyre, an uncompromising Witch Hunter, is one of Vermintide 2‘s five playable heroes. His fanatical devotion to his cause and ruthless efficiency can be channeled through his available careers, allowing players to purge the wicked in whatever style they choose.

If you’ve decided to main Saltzpyre, or want to give him a try after playing a different hero, our guide will teach you everything you need to know about his Careers; Witch Hunter Captain, Bounty Hunter, Zealot, and Warrior-Priest of Sigmar.

    Components of a Career

    Abilities

The cornerstone of each Career is its suite of Abilities. The primary, or active Ability, can be used by pressing F and has a powerful effect in-game. It must cool down before it can be used again, but this process can be sped up either by hitting enemies or by taking damage.

Passive Abilities are always in play and provide persistent effects that change how the Career plays. These can take the form of stat boosts, modifications to attacks, or conditional buffs.

    Talents

Every five levels, a character gains a new Talent slot for all their Careers. Each slot has three Talent options, of which only one can be equipped at a time. Players can freely change between equipped Talents at the Keep, but once they are on a Mission their choices are set until they return.

    Weapons

Players will find weapons for their heroes in strongboxes acquired in the field and as rewards for completing challenges. Additionally, each hero can craft new weapons at the Keep – new weapon types become available to craft as the hero levels up. Not every Career can equip every weapon available to a given hero, so pay attention to these restrictions when deciding what to craft or which Career to play.

    What Is Hero Power?

Hero Power is increased by a character’s average gear rating and by some Career traits. While it primarily serves as a rating of the hero’s capabilities, Hero Power is also considered when calculating attack results. As such, having a higher Hero Power means your attacks will do more damage and also be likelier to Stagger or Cleave foes.

    Witch Hunter Captain

The Witch Hunter Captain is among Vermintide 2’s most versatile Careers. With plenty of mobility and a wide variety of weapons available, Saltzpyre’s default Career is a great choice for beginning players and for Quick Play, where you won’t know who your teammates are and need to adapt to any situation. He also makes an ideal shot-caller when playing with friends, as enemies that he highlights take more damage.

Hit Points Active Ability Cooldown Cooldown Reduction per Hit Enemy Cooldown Reduction per Damage Taken
    125 90 seconds 0.5 seconds 0.2 seconds

    Abilities

    Ability Type Effect
Animosity Active Enemies near Saltzpyre are immediately pushed back when Animosity is activated. Additionally, nearby allies have their critical hit chance increased by twenty-five percent for six seconds.
Witch Hunt Passive Tagged enemies take twenty percent more damage (any hero can tag an enemy by pressing T when their reticle is on the selected foe). This does not stack with other damage boosts but applies to all tagged enemies, not just those tagged by Saltzpyre himself. The effect does not stack with itself if the same enemy is tagged by multiple heroes.
Eternal Guard Passive When Saltzpyre blocks, if the incoming attack would not completely remove a Stamina shield then no Stamina is lost at all.
Killing Shot Passive Any headshot that is also a critical hit instantly kills human-sized enemies.
Power of Sigmar Passive Saltzpyre’s damage bonus from headshots is increased by twenty-five percent.
Sigmar’s Charm Passive Saltzpyre’s critical hit chance increases by five percent. Since the base crit rate for a hero is five percent, Sigmar’s Charm effectively doubles the Witch Hunter Captain’s rate.

    Level 5 Talents

    Talent Effect
Hunter’s Ardour Headshots and critical hits made with a melee weapon grant Saltzpyre two temporary hit points. The effect stacks with itself, so a critical headshot counts twice.
Walking Judgment Whenever Saltzpyre hits multiple enemies with a single melee attack, he gains temporary hit points based on the number of enemies hit, to a maximum of five foes.
Disciplinarian Whenever Saltzpyre heals himself with Medical Supplies or a First Aid Draught, nearby allies are also healed for twenty percent of their maximum hit points. Additionally, healing himself removes Saltzpyre’s wounds, allowing him to be downed and revived more times before being killed.

    Level 10 Talents

    Talent Effect
Riposte If Saltzpyre successfully blocks at exactly the moment an enemy strike lands, his next melee attack is guaranteed to be a critical hit.
Deathknell Saltzpyre’s damage bonus from headshots increases by fifty percent.
Flense Any enemy hit by a melee attack from Saltzpyre gains a stack of Bleed, causing them to take damage over time. Hitting the same enemy multiple times will inflict multiple stacks of Bleed, accelerating the damage taken.

    Level 15 Talents

    Talent Effect
Mainstay Hitting a Staggered enemy will add a second stack of Stagger. Additionally, Saltzpyre deals an additional twenty percent damage to enemies he hits for every stack of Stagger the target has.
Assassin Saltzpyre’s damage against Staggered enemies increases by a further twenty percent per stack of Stagger. Additionally, headshots and critical hits gain a forty percent damage bonus. This Talent causes Saltzpyre’s hits against Staggered enemies to add a second stack of Stagger.
Enhanced Power This Talent directly increases Saltzpyre’s Hero Power by 7.5 percent. The damage he deals, as well as his Stagger and Cleave power, increase accordingly.

    Level 20 Talents

    Talent Effect
Templar’s Knowledge The damage bonus from Witch Hunt is increased from twenty percent to twenty-five percent.
Heretic Sighted Whenever Saltzpyre tags an enemy, his attack speed increases by ten percent for fifteen seconds.
Wild Fervour Whenever a tagged enemy dies, the entire party gets a five-percent increase to their critical hit chance for five seconds. This applies to enemies tagged by any hero, not just Saltzpyre.

    Level 25 Talents

    Talent Effect
Charmed Life When Saltzpyre dodges, the distance he moves is increased by twenty percent. By default, dodging is done by jumping while moving during an enemy attack.
Cast Away Whenever Saltzpyre pushes an enemy, his Stamina recovers forty percent faster for 2 seconds. Pushing an enemy is done by pressing the attack button while blocking.
Always Prepared Saltzpyre’s ammunition carrying capacity is increased by thirty percent.

    Level 30 Talents

    Talent Effect
I Shall Judge You All All enemies knocked back by Animosity become tagged.
Fervency Animosity no longer grants allies a bonus to their critical hit rate. Instead, all of Saltzpyre’s attacks are guaranteed critical hits for six seconds after activating Animosity.
The Unending Hunt If Saltzpyre hits ten or more enemies simultaneously with Animosity, thirty-six seconds are immediately deducted from its cooldown.

    Bounty Hunter

Upon reaching Level 7, Saltzpyre can trade in the traditional methods of the Witch Hunter and take the fight to the Skaven his way as a Bounty Hunter. This Career is much more focused on ranged combat than Saltzpyre’s other options, but still has access to all of his melee weapons. Unlike other ranged Careers, the Bounty Hunter is at his best rapidly switching between close combat and shooting.

Hit Points Active Ability Cooldown Cooldown Reduction per Hit Enemy Cooldown Reduction per Damage Taken
    100 90 seconds 0.25 seconds 0.3 seconds

    Abilities

    Ability Type Effect
Locked and Loaded Active This Ability fires a conical shotgun blast from Saltzpyre’s weapon. In addition to the buckshot which damages enemies in a wide area, a single penetrating shot is fired directly at Saltzpyre’s targeting reticule. This bullet is capable of piercing through multiple enemies.
Blessed Shots Passive Every ten seconds, Saltzpyre gets a guaranteed critical hit with his ranged attack. This effect cannot stack with itself, so only one guaranteed crit is available at a time.
Ammo Pouches Passive This Ability increases Saltzpyre’s ammunition carrying capacity by fifty percent.
Quick Release Passive This Ability increases Saltzpyre’s reload speed by fifteen percent.

    Level 5 Talents

    Talent Effect
Blood For Money Headshots and critical hits made with a melee weapon grant Saltzpyre two temporary hit points. The effect stacks with itself, so a critical headshot counts twice.
Tithetaker Whenever Saltzpyre scores the killing blow against an enemy with a melee attack, he gains temporary hit points based on the maximum health of the slain enemy.
Paymaster Whenever Saltzpyre heals himself with Medical Supplies or a First Aid Draught, nearby allies are also healed for twenty percent of their maximum hit points. Additionally, healing himself removes Saltzpyre’s wounds, allowing him to be downed and revived more times before being killed.

    Level 10 Talents

    Talent Effect
Open Wounds Whenever Saltzpyre lands a critical hit, the struck enemy takes twenty percent more damage from all attacks for fifteen seconds.
Steel Crescendo After Saltzpyre fires his last round of ammunition, his attack speed and Hero Power both increase by fifteen percent for fifteen seconds.
Weight of Fire Saltzpyre’s ranged attacks have their effects calculated as though his Hero Power were one percent higher for each round he currently has loaded. This Talent is best used with Repeater Pistols, as they have the largest capacity of the Bounty Hunter’s available weapons.

    Level 15 Talents

    Talent Effect
Smiter Attacks against Staggered enemies add a second stack of Stagger. Additionally, Saltzpyre always Staggers the first enemy he hits with each attack. He also deals twenty percent more damage to enemies for every stack of Stagger on the target.

Blessed Combat Whenever Saltzpyre lands a melee attack, his next six ranged attacks deal fifteen percent more damage. Whenever Saltzpyre lands a ranged attack, his next six melee attacks deal fifteen percent more damage. Additionally, each melee kill Saltzpyre scores resets his Blessed Shots Ability, guaranteeing his next ranged attack will be a critical hit.
Cruel Fortune The Blessed Shots Ability now guarantees a critical hit on ranged attacks every 6 seconds, rather than 10.
Prize Bounty Shots guaranteed to be critical hits by Blessed Shots do not consume ammunition.

    Level 25 Talents

    Talent Effect
Rile the Mob Whenever Saltzpyre scores a critical hit with a ranged attack, all heroes have their movement speed increased by ten percent for ten seconds. Since the bonus lasts just as long as it takes for Blessed Shots to cool down, Saltzpyre can potentially maintain it for the entirety of an encounter if he manages his ammo and keeps shooting.
Dual Action If Saltzpyre is out of ammunition, he regains twenty percent of his carrying capacity whenever he kills an elite enemy. Additionally, killing any enemy with a melee attack reloads Saltzpyre’s ranged weapon with one shot.
Job Well Done Whenever Saltzpyre kills a special or elite enemy, the damage he takes from enemy attacks is reduced by one percent for the remainder of the current mission. Job Well Done can stack up to thirty times for a maximum damage reduction of thirty percent.

    Level 30 Talents

    Talent Effect
Just Reward Once every ten seconds, scoring a critical hit with a ranged weapon deducts eighteen seconds from the cooldown for Locked and Loaded. Remember, thanks to Blessed Shots the Bounty Hunter is guaranteed to get a critical hit with a ranged attack every ten seconds.
Double Shotted Replaces the shotgun blast of Locked and Loaded with two penetrating bullets fired side-by-side. If either score a headshot, thirty-six seconds are immediately deducted from the cooldown timer for Locked and Loaded.
Return On Investment Locked and Loaded now fires two shotgun blasts instead of one. Each enemy killed with Locked and Loaded increases the number of pellets fired by the Ability the next time it is used, up to a maximum of twenty.

    Weapons

    Weapon Type Crafting Requirement
    Rapier Melee Level 1
    Falchion Melee Level 2
    Axe Melee Level 6
    Two-Handed Sword Melee Level 8
    Flail Melee Level 12

Bill Hook Melee Winds of Magic DLC
Brace of Pistols Ranged Level 1
    Volley Crossbow Ranged Level 4
    Repeater Pistol Ranged Level 7
    Crossbow Ranged Level 9

    Zealot

At Level 12, Saltzpyre can channel his righteous anger as a Zealot. Charging into melee with no regard for his safety and trusting Sigmar to guide his strikes, Saltzpyre becomes capable of withstanding mortal blows by the power of his faith alone. The Zealot is a high-risk Career that will often see your health bar lower than you’re probably used to having it, but unswerving conviction (and some friends nearby ready to revive you) will see a skilled Zealot player to great rewards.

Hit Points Active Ability Cooldown Cooldown Reduction per Hit Enemy Cooldown Reduction per Damage Taken
    150 60 seconds 0.5 seconds 0.2 seconds

    Abilities

    Ability Type Effect
Holy Fervour Active Upon activating this Ability, Saltzpyre charges directly forward and his attack speed increases by twenty-five percent for the next five seconds. The charge can be canceled at any time by pressing the block button (right mouse button by default), and Saltzpyre can freely switch and use equipment during the charge. If Saltzpyre is blocking at the time he activates Holy Fervour, he maintains the block throughout the charge so long as the block button remains pressed.
Fiery Faith Passive For every 25 hit points Saltzpyre has below his maximum, his Hero Power increases by five percent. This translates to a maximum increase of twenty-five percent if he has less than 25 hit points remaining.
Heart of Iron Passive Once every ninety seconds, if Saltspyre suffers damage that would kill him (i.e., reduce his hit points to zero when he is at the wound limit for the current mission’s difficulty setting) he is instead downed for five seconds. If he is not revived within that time he dies and cannot continue the current mission.
Unswerving Strikes Passive Saltzpyre’s heavy melee attacks are no longer interrupted if he takes damage (heavy attacks are made by holding and releasing the attack button).

    Level 5 Talents

    Talent Effect
Sigmar’s Herald Whenever Saltzpyre hits multiple enemies with a single melee attack, he gains temporary hit points based on the number of enemies hit, to a maximum of five foes.
Repent! Repent! Whenever Saltzpyre scores the killing blow against an enemy with a melee attack, he gains temporary hit points based on the maximum health of the slain enemy.
Font of Zeal Whenever Saltzpyre heals himself with Medical Supplies or a First Aid Draught, nearby allies are also healed for twenty percent of their maximum hit points. Additionally, healing himself removes Saltzpyre’s wounds, allowing him to be downed and revived more times before being killed.

    Level 10 Talents

    Talent Effect
Castigate As long as Saltzpyre has fewer than 75 hit points remaining, his attack speed is increased by ten percent. If he has fewer than 30 hit points remaining, his attack speed is instead increased by twenty percent.
Smite Saltzpyre can no longer score critical hits at random. Instead, every fifth attack is a guaranteed critical hit. Since the base critical hit rate is five percent, Smite effectively quadruples the number of critical hits Saltzpyre can expect to score throughout a mission.
Unbending Purpose This Talent increases Saltzpyre’s Hero Power by five percent.

Mainstay Hitting a Staggered enemy will add a second stack of Stagger. Additionally, Saltzpyre deals an additional twenty percent damage to enemies he hits for every stack of Stagger the target has.
Enhanced Power This Talent directly increases Saltzpyre’s Hero Power by 7.5 percent. The damage he deals, as well as his Stagger and Cleave power, increase accordingly.

    Level 20 Talents

    Talent Effect
Crusade Fiery Faith now increases Saltzpyre’s movement speed in addition to his Hero Power, at the same rate of five percent for each stack (that is, for every 25 hit points Saltzpyre is below his maximum).
Holy Fortitude For each stack of Fiery Faith (that is, for every 25 hit points Saltzpyre is below his maximum), any effects that heal Saltzpyre do so for fifteen percent more hit points in addition to the Ability’s other effects
Armour of Faith For each stack of Fiery Faith (that is, for every 25 hit points Saltzpyre is below his maximum) the damage dealt to Saltzpyre is reduced by five percent in addition to the Ability’s other effects.

    Level 25 Talents

    Talent Effect
Devotion Whenever Saltzpyre takes damage, his movement speed is increased by thirty percent for two seconds. Additionally, enemy attacks can no longer slow Saltzpyre’s movement.
Redemption Through Blood Whenever Saltzpyre takes damage, he immediately recovers all lost Stamina (represented by shields on the player’s HUD), allowing him to block and push enemies more often.
Calloused Without and Within Saltzpyre takes ten percent less damage from enemy attacks.

    Level 30 Talents

    Talent Effect
Faith’s Flurry Each attack Saltzpyre makes while under the effects of Holy Fervour increases his Hero Power by two percent for five seconds, up to a maximum increase of ten percent.
Feel Nothing While under the effects of Holy Fervour, Saltzpyre’s hit points cannot be reduced below 1.
Flagellant’s Zeal After Holy Fervour ends, its cooldown timer immediately has three seconds deducted for each hit that Saltzpyre landed while the Ability was active. This cannot reduce the cooldown by more than thirty seconds.

    Warrior-Priest of Sigmar

The Warrior-Priest, Saltzpyre’s premium Career, is only available via the Warrior-Priest of Sigmar DLC. This removes all of Saltzpyre’s ranged capabilities to make him a juggernaut in melee. Not only can he protect himself and his allies, but his mighty swings will lay waste to enemies as his Righteous Fury builds. At Level 25 the Warrior-Priest has access to powerful Talents that buff the entire party, making him a welcome addition to any team.

Hit Points Active Ability Cooldown Cooldown Reduction per Hit Enemy Cooldown Reduction per Damage Taken
    150 70 seconds N/A N/A

    Abilities

    Ability Type Effect
Shield of Faith Active Activating this ability grants invulnerability to the targeted ally for five seconds. Pressing the Ability button (F by default) grants the effect to Saltzpyre while holding the button allows him to select another hero to receive the blessing. After the invulnerability expires, a burst of energy radiates from the protected hero and damages nearby enemies.
Righteous Fury Passive Whenever an enemy dies near Saltzpyre, his Fury increases. Saltzpyre does not have to be the one that struck the killing blow for this to trigger. When his Fury reaches its maximum limit, Saltzpyre’s weapons begin to glow and his melee attacks cause a secondary strike for twenty percent of the weapon’s normal damage. This bonus lasts until the Fury meter empties. Whether Righteous Fury is active or not, the Fury meter slowly drains if Saltzpyre is not in combat.
Enemy of Chaos Passive Saltzpyre’s Hero Power is considered thirty percent higher when attacking Chaos Warriors and Beastman Standard-Bearers.
Incorruptible Passive Saltzpyre cannot be affected by enemy curses.
Implacable Passive Damage Saltzpyre takes from enemy attacks is reduced by twenty percent. An additional twenty percent is slowly taken over the next three seconds rather than all at once. This damage over time cannot reduce Saltzpyre’s hit points below 1.

    Level 5 Talents

    Talent Effect
Eternal Vigilance Whenever Saltzpyre Staggers an enemy with a melee attack, he gains temporary hit points based on the strength of the Stagger.
Slayer of the Wicked Whenever Saltzpyre hits multiple enemies with a single melee attack, he gains temporary hit points based on the number of enemies hit, to a maximum of five foes.
Blessed Hands Whenever Saltzpyre heals himself with Medical Supplies or a First Aid Draught, nearby allies are also healed for twenty percent of their maximum hit points. Additionally, healing himself removes Saltzpyre’s wounds, allowing him to be downed and revived more times before being killed.

    Level 10 Talents

    Talent Effect
Unstoppable Force Whenever Saltzpyre hits three enemies with the same attack, for the next three seconds he only spends half the normal amount of Stamina to push enemies.
Rising Judgment Each time Saltzpyre hits an enemy, he gains a stack of Rising Judgment (up to a maximum of five). The next time he makes a heavy melee attack, all stacks of Rising Judgment are removed and the attack’s effects are calculated as though Saltzpyre’s Hero Power were eight percent higher for each stack. The means the maximum possible bonus is forty percent.
Sigmar’s Executioner Whenever Saltzpyre kills an elite enemy, his critical hit rate increases by five percent for the next twelve seconds. Sigmar’s Executioner can stack up to three times for a total increase of fifteen percent.

Divine Excoriation Whenever Righteous Fury is active (indicated by Saltzpyre’s weapons glowing), pushing an enemy causes a shockwave to emanate from the Warrior-Priest, Staggering nearby enemies.
Empowered Smite The secondary hit caused by Righteous Fury now triggers one second after Saltzpyre’s attack lands but deals forty percent of the weapon’s damage rather than twenty. In addition, the secondary strike has increased Stagger power.
From Fury, Fortitude Each time Saltzpyre kills an enemy while his weapons are glowing with Righteous Fury, every hero regains hit points based on the maximum health of the slain enemy.

    Level 25 Talents

    Talent Effect
Prayer of Vengeance All heroes gain a thirty-five percent increase to their critical hit chance.
Prayer of Might All heroes’ attacks check for Stagger as though their Hero Power were twenty-five percent higher, potentially allowing them to Stagger tougher foes.
Prayer of Hardiness All heroes’ maximum hit points are increased by fifteen percent.

    Level 30 Talents

    Talent Effect
Unyielding Blessing This Talent extends the duration of Shield of Faith from 5 seconds to 8 seconds. Additionally, a hero protected by Shield of Faith can trample their way through human-sized enemies.
United In Prayer Whenever Saltzpyre protects an ally with Shield of Faith, he gains the benefit of the Ability himself as well.
The Comet’s Gift The hero protected by Shield of Faith is immediately healed for an amount equal to the damage they have suffered in the last three seconds. Additionally, targeting a downed ally with Shield of Faith immediately revives them.

    Weapons

The Warrior-Priest exclusively uses weapons blessed by Sigmar, rejecting the mundane armaments of Saltzpyre’s other Careers. That said, all are unlocked for crafting immediately upon purchasing the Warrior-Priest of Sigmar DLC, so if you have some materials saved up you can get started on the build you want right away!

    Weapon Type Crafting Requirement
