What branches of the military did James Jordan Flynn serve in?
James (Jim) Jordan Flynn, age 90, of Urbana, passed November 14, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Urbana, Ohio on March 22, 1928 to the late George Cyrus and Eliza (Kauffman) Flynn. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Phyllis (Nace) Flynn and five children, Teresa (James) Schneider, Cindy (Charlie) Stahl, Todd (Paige) Flynn, Gregory (Gail) Flynn, and John Flynn; eight grandchildren, Erin (Jon) Fout, Emily (Adam) Brown, Jamie (Mark) Thompson, Jennifer (Eric) Lane, Kristen (Drew) Knecht, Scott (Kaytlyn) Stahl, Ryan Schmidt, and Jessica Flynn; and 11 great-grandchildren, Addison and Miles Fout, Theodore and Ryder Brown, Lorelai and Griffin Thompson, Grayson Lane, Everett Knecht, Emmett Stahl, Elizabeth and Abigail Flynn, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
He attended school at Schultz Rural School and then Urbana Senior High School and was a member of Frost United Methodist Church.
Jim served with the US Army in Korea and was part of the occupational forces in Japan, after his honorable discharge he worked in maintenance at the Frigidaire Plant in Dayton until it closed. He then worked for the City of Urbana in the maintenance department until retirement.
He was a lifelong enthusiastic farmer and thoroughly enjoyed raising beef cattle, hogs and worked in the hay and grain industry. Jim was a member of Johnson-Humrickhouse American legion Post #39 and the Farm Bureau, he was a board member at Rural King and a proud Huffman Farms customer.
Jim was an avid reader and follower of current events, never missing a chance to share his knowledge and opinion on a variety of topics even up until the end he was always kind and full of wisdom.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 12 – 2 PM in the FRESHWATER, FARBER, MILLER & OLDS FUNERAL HOME, North Lewisburg,. Graveside services will follow immediately in the Woodstock Cemetery.
