Whether you’re looking to play a full-blown mage or a physical attacker augmenting their kit with a few spells, Elden Ring contains many, many spells for you to choose from. There’s devastating offensive spells that nuke opponents, debilitating status conditions, and plenty of heals and buffs, and as a result there are millions of spell build combinations available.

In order to use these spells, you’re going to have to find them first. Some are easy to get your hands on, trading Runes with a merchant or NPC, while others require exploring dangerous locations or taking on formidable bosses. And then there are the requirements to equip them — you’ll need a highly boosted Faith stat in order to use most Incantations. Here’s where you can find them.

Incantations Bought From Merchants

The most straightforward Incantations to collect, these can all be purchased from certain merchants throughout the Lands Between. Some are dedicated stores, while others are purchased from NPCs after certain conditions have been met. Either way, each of these Incantations will cost a whole stack of Runes.

Eventually, Brother Corhyn will leave Roundtable Hold and head to other locations. The maps below show his movements, from Altus Plateau, to Goldmask’s location, and finally to a spot near the Elden Sanctuary.

Miriel, Pastor Of Vows Location

Miriel can be found very early on at the Church of Vows in Liurnia. Follow the path north from the Eastern Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace, on the eastern shore of the lake, taking the left path each time you have a choice. If you are travelling there at lower level, be mindful of strong enemies, and the skeletons that spawn directly outside the church.

This Sage can be found in Caelid, at a shack in his own name. He sells five different spells, but they must be unlocked by progressing Millicent’s questline first. There are strong enemies in this area, so be mindful not to go inside with aggro otherwise you could end up killing Gowry, and therefore not having access to any of his spells.

Each of these Incantations are freely given by certain NPCs, either immediately or as rewards for completing tasks they set you.

Gurranq And The Deathroots

Gurranq, Beast Clergyman, is a frightening creature who will reward you for supplying him with Deathroot. There are nine of these items throughout the Lands Between, and you’ll be rewarded handsomely. Check out our dedicated guide for all Deathroot locations.

To reach him, you’ll need to pass through an extremely dangerous part of the Caelid region, past a dragon and a ridiculously strong boss in Black Blade Kindred, but there’s a way to get inside the Bestial Sanctum without dealing with these enemies. Simply head to the Third Church of Marika in Limgrave, then look for the portal nestled in the cliff bottom slightly to the northeast. This will transport you into the Bestial Sanctum.

Incantations Sourced From Prayerbooks

Some Incantations will only become available once you’ve found the corresponding Prayerbook, a kind of codex that enables certain merchants to learn the spell and pass it on.

You can give the Prayerbooks to Brother Corhyn in Roundtable Hold or Miriel in the Church of Vows, and they will then sell the spells in their stores. We’d recommend giving all your Prayerbooks to Miriel, given the holy tortoise doesn’t move location, die, or disappear as your quest progresses.

In theory, most of these are available right from the start of the game, just requiring time and Torrent’s legwork to reach. However, their stat requirements might mean you can’t equip them immediately.

Triple Rings of Light	23 INT, 23 FAI	From the Prayer Room Site of Grace within the Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree Legacy Dungeon, head outside and drop onto the roof below to access another room. The Incantation is behind an Imp-sealed barrier that requires two Stonesword Keys.
Unendurable Frenzy	31 FAI	Found in a chest beneath the Yelough Anix Ruins in the far west of the Mountaintops of the Giants region.

Incantations Given As Boss Rewards

Naturally, some powerful spells are won after defeating powerful bosses in Elden Ring. These won’t be easy to get hold of, generally because bosses aren’t easy to defeat, so you’ll need all your wits about you to succeed. Don’t bang your head against a wall if you cannot defeat a boss — go away, level up a bit, then come back and claim your prize later.

After losing a certain amount of health, it will move east to a location south of the Rampartside Path Site of Grace, just outside Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Noble Presence	26 FAI	Defeat the Godskin Noble within Volcano Manor. Follow our guide for strategies.
Scouring Black Flame	28 FAI	Defeat the Godskin Apostle in Altus Plateau. He can be found at the top of Windmill Village.
Theodorix’s Magma	21 FAI, 14 ARC	Defeat Great Wyrm Theodorix in the Consecrated Snowfield area of the Mountaintops of the Giants. You’ll find the dragon at the bottom of the waterfall northeast of Albinauric Rise. Pick up the Site of Grace in the nearby Cave of the Forlorn to make access easier.
Vyke’s Dragonbolt	23 FAI	Defeat Roundtable Knight Vyke in the Lord Contender’s Evergaol. In the Mountaintops of the Giants, head east from the Whiteridge Road Site of Grace. The Evergaol is near the lake shore.

Incantations Dropped By Teardrop Scarabs

Found all over the Lands Between, Teardrop Scarabs push their magical balls of dung about their daily business. They’ll typically try to run away, and some require ranged attacks to defeat. There are even some Teardrop Scarabs that are invisible, leaving behind only their footprints as a clue, requiring you to anticipate their path and intercept. Either way, once killed, they’ll drop their valuable bounty.

Golden Lightning Fortification	24 FAI	Take the Dragon Temple Lift upwards within Crumbling Farum Azula, head past the Site of Grace, then look to edge of the cliffs in the southwest near the giant tornado.
Lightning Strike	28 FAI	Just to the southeast of the Minor Erdtree in Weeping Peninsula, drop down using the tombstone platforms to the valley below. Watch out for the lightning strikes!
Order Healing	11 INT, 11 FAI	Drop from the Siofra River Aqueduct into the circular tower, as if heading towards the Great Waterfall Basin. Head north into the main building, then make your way round to the circular tower to the south.
Poison Armament	10 FAI	Found to the northeast of the Inner Aeonia Site of Grace. This one is an invisible Scarab, so observe the path and intercept.
Poison Mist	12 FAI	Another invisible Scarab, this one is found to the southeast of the Castle Morne Site of Grace in the Weeping Peninsula. Look for the forested area.
Protection of the Erdtree	35 FAI	On a plateau near the broken bridge where you find Goldmask, in Altus Plateau. Head west from the Windmill Village Site of Grace.
Whirl, O Flame!	13 FAI, 1 ARC	Next to the road northwest of the Caelem Ruins Site of Grace in Caelid. Use the Minor Erdtree as a marker.

Incantations Earned From Dragon Communion

This set of Incantations need to be purchased, but you’ll need a special kind of currency — Dragon Hearts. The bad news is that in order to get your hands on these organs, you’re going to need to take them directly from the source.

That means facing some formidable dragons, some of which are among the most powerful enemies in Elden Ring. Once you have the relevant Hearts, take them to either the Church of Dragon Communion or the Cathedral of Dragon Communion, where you can exchange them for the spells.

Where To Find The Cathedral Of Dragon Communion

The Cathedral of Dragon Communion offers more advanced spells than the Church, and is easier to find. Just past the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace you’ll come across Decaying Ekzykes, a massive Rot-spewing dragon. The Cathedral is directly to the south of this dragon, off the highway, so take a wide berth if you’re not strong enough.

Incantations Exchanged For Remembrances

The final set of Incantations are obtained by exchanging Remembrances with Finger Reader Enia, the ancient lady with the Two Fingers for company in Roundtable Hold. These Remembrances are obtained by defeating very powerful enemies, so be prepared for a battle when seeking them out. Check out our guide for details on what these Incantations do.
