Pokemon Go will celebrate Sustainability Week with a limited-time event this month. The Sustainability Week Event will take place over the course of about a week, providing you and others who participate with plenty of desirable bonuses while it is available.
Players will benefit from several bonuses having to do with Buddy Pokemon, in addition to many other event bonuses during its duration. Learn everything you need to know about this event to maximize your rewards during this window.
Updated on April 19, 2023: Pokemon Go has decided to bring back its Sustainability Week Event this year, bringing several new features and changes to the game with it. We have completely updated this guide with everything you need to know to make the most of this event, taking place from Thursday, April 20 at 10AM local time to Wednesday, April 26 at 8PM local time.
Pokemon Debuts
This event will mark the debut of a brand-new Pokemon in Pokemon Go, Bounsweet, and its two evolutions, Steenee and Tsareena. During this event, Bounsweet will be available in wild encounters, Eggs, and Timed Research encounters.
It will require 25 Bounsweet Candy to evolve Bounsweet into Steenee, then another 100 Bounsweet Candy to evolve Steenee into its final evolution, Tsareena.
Additionally, the Shiny variation of Drilbur will be available for the first time with this event. This Shiny Pokemon can be obtained through several methods during this event, including wild encounters, Eggs, Field Research encounters, and Timed Research.
Event Bonuses
There will be four different bonuses available during Pokemon Go’s Sustainability Week Event, each pertaining to your Buddy Pokemon. Each of these bonuses can be found below.
- Ultra Buddies and above will bring you souvenirs at a higher rate
- Great Buddies and above will find leaf-wrapped gifts, providing you with different berries
- Buddy Pokemon will adventure with you for a longer duration following being fed
- Buddy Pokemon will only need to travel half the distance to obtain Buddy Hearts
Event Wild Encounters
During the Pokemon Go Sustainability Week Event, several Pokemon will have increased chances of being seen in the wild. Make sure to log in and play Pokemon Go during this event for a chance to encounter and catch the following event-themed Pokemon.

Event Research
Timed Research
During the Sustainability Week Event, there will be Timed Research available to all players. Completing the tasks that are a part of this Timed Research will provide you with various in game items, as well as encounters with either Drilbur, Trubbish, or Bounsweet.
Field Research Task Encounters
There will be special Event Field Research available from visiting and spinning different PokeStops around the world. Those that reward you with Pokemon encounters will provide you with a chance to catch Drilbur, possessing the chance to be Shiny for the first time during this event.
Event Egg Pokemon
Hatching 7km Eggs that are obtained during the Sustainability Week Event window will provide you with a chance to obtain different Pokemon than those that are typically available.
There will be three Pokemon in this limited-time Egg pool: Cherubi, Drilbur, and Bounsweet, Pokemon Go’s latest debut.
Event Avatar Items
There will be three new avatar items being brought to the game with this year’s Sustainability Week Event, each themed around Pokemon Go’s newest additions, Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena.
This includes the Bounsweet Hat, Steenee Shirt, and Tsareena Boots, each of which can be purchased at the in-game shop.
